Follower Growth Calculator

Measure how fast an account grows, project its followers months ahead and find out when it will reach a goal such as 10K or 100K. Works for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

How to use the follower growth calculator

  1. Measure. Enter the follower count at the start and now, and the length of the period. You get the average monthly growth rate, the yearly rate and new followers per day.
  2. Project. Click “Project from here” or enter the current followers and a monthly growth rate. The chart shows the expected follower count for up to 36 months.
  3. Set a goal. Enter a target, for example 100,000. The calculator shows when you will reach it at the current rate and what monthly growth you would need to reach it in the chosen period.

Follower growth formulas

Growth compounds: each month’s new followers add to the base for the next month. That is why the calculator uses compound formulas, not a simple average.

  • Monthly growth rate = (followers now ÷ followers at start)^(1 ÷ months) − 1
  • Followers after k months = current followers × (1 + monthly rate)^k
  • Months to reach a goal = ln(goal ÷ current) ÷ ln(1 + monthly rate), rounded up
  • Monthly rate needed = (goal ÷ current)^(1 ÷ months) − 1

Example: an account grew from 10,000 to 12,000 followers in 6 months. That is 20% for the period, 3.09% per month, and about 44% per year if the pace holds. At 5% per month, 10,000 followers become 17,959 in a year, and doubling to 20,000 takes 15 months.

What is a good follower growth rate?

Growth rates depend on platform and account size: small accounts can double in months, large ones grow by a fraction of a percent. We track typical monthly growth rates in our follower growth rate benchmarks. When those benchmarks are set in the calculator, it compares your rate with the median for your platform and size.

Keep in mind that modest monthly growth adds up quickly: 2.5% per month is roughly 34% per year.

Using growth to vet creators

Steady growth is a good sign. Watch out for:

  • Sudden jumps of thousands of followers without a viral post: often bought followers.
  • Growth with falling engagement: new followers who don’t interact. Check it with the engagement rate calculator.
  • Long periods of decline: the audience is losing interest, and reach will fall with it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate follower growth rate?

Divide the follower count now by the count at the start, raise the result to the power of 1 divided by the number of months, and subtract 1. The calculator does this for you and converts days or weeks into months.

Why compound growth instead of a simple average?

Because followers grow on top of followers. A simple average overstates early months and understates later ones, and the error grows with longer projections.

Why does growth slow down as accounts get bigger?

The same number of new followers is a smaller percentage of a bigger audience, and reaching new people gets harder as the obvious audience is already following. Expect the monthly rate to fall as the account grows.

Does the calculator handle follower loss?

Yes. If the account shrank, you see a negative monthly rate marked as Declining. Projections at a negative or zero rate show that a goal is not reachable without a change.

How accurate is the projection?

It assumes the current monthly rate stays the same. Real growth changes with content, trends and platform algorithms, so treat the projection as a scenario, not a forecast.
